Victor Herbert (1859-1924): Panamericana: Morceau Characteristique LISTEN HERE
This piece was written for the Pan-American Exposition, held in Buffalo, NY in 1901. It was first performed at the Exposition on Oct. 14 in the Temple of Music. The composer said the following about his piece of music:
Victor Herbert wrote about Panamericana in1901, "The piece is of the more popular order and will make a hit. The first part is "supposed" to be "Indian" the second part "ragtime" (modern America) and the trio "Cuban" or Spanish character."
